What's more to do?

This morning I merged a PR that I started in October, on something I started designing in March, a year ago. Nothing technically very complex, but a lot of red tape. So. Much. Redtape. Then I carried on trying to finish a refactoring that I started more recently, seeing the end of it, but not quite yet.

How do git remotes work? And how do I self-host my own?

What it takes to create the simplest, barest self-hosted git remote, and learn stuff about git in the process.

The Let Them Theory

I enjoyed that book because it presents a good framework to “let go”. It goes pretty deep into the principle and its applications, and is relatively action oriented. It’s a bit repetitive, but still worth a read. Also it’s called “let them theory”, but really it’s a principle, not a theory. Needed to be said.

Some pretty cool git tools to save your sanity and your kids

Splitting PRs is a pain, especially when refactoring is baked into the change. Here’s how I make it bearable using
git revise
and some additional git tools that I built.

Agile done wrong is not waterfall

Microsoft just turned 50. I also just themed XFCE running on the Ubuntu that powers my personal Surface Laptop to Chicago95. Don’t ask. I went the extra mile to make it do the start music.

Noise

I enjoyed learning about the concept. However if you plan to read that book, I would advise to start with the last chapter, which gives 80% of the concept, then read the rest as a deep-dive in the details. It would warrant a 4/5, but the unnecessary length, and the reversed structure reduces it by .25. AND YES, I’m conscious this is a noisy rating, and I’m fine with it. Take that!
